A fatal accident occurred overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, at the Marquain interchange, on the highway from Mouscron to the Orcq zoning. Firefighter Lieutenant Patrick Ratte and his team were contacted around 1:30 a.m.
The accident left no survivors. Five people died, two adults and three teenagers. It was the dentist Vincent Messiaen and his family.
“For some unknown reason, the driver lost control of his vehicle. He hit the right half-mast, executed a straight line which then led him to hit the left half-mast. Following the impact, the car was thrown into the air, landed in the trees on the side of the road and burst into flames. The three young people, passengers in the rear shelf, were thrown outside, while the two adults were burned to death in the vehicle,” explains the mayor, Paul-Olivier Delannois.
The operation ended around 7:30 a.m.
