This Thursday, we announced that the euthanasia of Iron, the almost three-year-old Amstaff who had been involved in the tragic death of little Talya, 8, left alone by her mother with two mastiffs one evening in July 2021, was to take place this Friday. But eventually, she was brought forward. “The euthanasia was to take place this Friday but a priori, the police were afraid of excesses and brought forward their arrival”, explained Gaetan Sgualdino, president of the SPA La Louvière. “She was right in my opinion in view of what unfolded that Thursday evening.”
The police, present in the premises of the SPA to allow the execution of the court decision which requested the euthanasia of the dog if its owner recovered it, arrived around 8:30 p.m. on the spot. They were welcomed by a hundred people who came to show their support for Iron, but above all their dissatisfaction with the situation. Insults were uttered and, according to our information, arrests took place.
While the SPA still held out hope for a turnaround, the owner of Iron stuck to her decision. “Our desire, if really no other solution was possible, was to be able to practice euthanasia in our premises in La Louvière. This, in order to prevent Iron from being too stressed. This was the case and he left surrounded by volunteers who had taken care of him for the past two years, people who loved him,” concludes Gaetan Sgualdino.
