An industrial safety accident occurred in India on the 10th. At a construction site on the 40th floor of a building under construction, the elevator fell from the 40th floor to B3 due to a broken elevator cable. Six workers were killed and one was seriously injured. The cause of the incident remains to be clarified. In response, builders also responded.
According to “The Hindu” report, a 40-story building under construction in Thane, Maharashtra, had an accident due to a cable break, resulting in 6 deaths and 1 injury. Tawi, head of the disaster management team of the Thane Municipal Corporation, said that when the workers completed the waterproofing work and entered the construction elevator on the 40th floor, the elevator suddenly fell to B3. Six workers died and one was seriously injured.
Tawi said that from above, one of the support cables of the construction elevator had broken, and it was still unclear what caused the actual failure of the elevator. It is understood that following receiving the report, the police rushed to the underground parking lot to rescue people. The deceased were 32-year-old Mahendra Choupal, 21-year-old Rupesh Kumar Das, 47-year-old Harun Sheikh, 35-year-old Mithlesh Vishwakarma, and 38-year-old Kari Das and Navin Vishwakarma.
According to the Times of India, a resident of a nearby building said he heard a loud crash, like a bomb exploding, and later learned that a worker had died in the elevator.
In this regard, the builder of the accident said that the elevator has been monitored and maintained every year in accordance with the contract. The last maintenance was on the 23rd of last month. The evaluation report showed that the elevator was in good condition. Former municipal official Sanjay Bhoir said that as far as he knew, the elevator was repaired only two days ago and a certificate of conformity was signed. If an accident occurred, it means that the certificate was forged.
