Authorities are advancing in the investigation into the death of a two-month-old baby attacked by a dog in Cota, Cundinamarca, specifically in the village of La Moya, while the population continues to be dismayed by the unfortunate event.
According to the Secretary of the Government of Cota, Edgar Gabriel Valero, in the last hours the opinion of Legal Medicine that determined the causes of the death of the minor was known.
“Yesterday we formally received the opinion of Legal Medicine, where it is effectively confirmed that the injuries are a consequence of the hypothesis that is being handled and it is confirmed that it is the bite of a canine,” said the official.
The owner of the dog, who was detained by the authorities minutes following the attack, last Thursday, July 20, was released, however, he will remain linked to the investigation.
“On Thursday he made himself available to the local Madrid Prosecutor’s Office and yesterday in the procedure he was released, obviously in the term of legalization of the capture. Despite being linked to the process, the judge of guarantees considers that the capture was not legal”, added the Secretary of Government of Cota.
For his part, Ferney Escobar, the minor’s uncle, assured that the family hopes that the parents will come out of the emotional trauma to determine whether or not to take legal action.
“Currently, we are waiting for them to get out of this terrible situation that they have and it will be decided with them what are the legal and legal actions to take and what is going to be done with the owner of the dog,” said the girl’s relative.
Sources from the Attorney General’s Office indicated that the dog is in the possession of the specialized group Gelma, which is in charge of determining the causes that led to the canine attack.
