The bones of a very young child, approximately one year old, were found on Wednesday on private property in the city of Nísia Floresta, on the northeast coast of Brazil, local press reported on Friday. Police have arrested a suspect. He would be the father of the child. The man affirms for his part that his partner, of Belgian nationality, and their three children, would have returned to live in Belgium.
It was the owner of the domain who alerted the authorities. The family, who had rented the property since 2020, had been evicted because they were no longer paying rent. However, the man continued to live in the house. In his complaint, the owner specified having seen the pregnant woman, then the baby following his birth, but he added that he had not seen the toddler for some time.
The intervention of the police made it possible to bring to light the corpse of a very young child, buried regarding sixty centimeters deep. The bones were discovered near a puppy skeleton, hidden by an abandoned stroller near a path on this 13-hectare property.
The couple officially has two children but, in addition to the owner, witnesses mention a sibling of three. However, the birth of the youngest has not been declared. The parents had also already been the subject of an investigation for ill-treatment.
An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death of the child. Arrested at the scene, the father was taken into custody. He claims that the mother and their three children have returned to Belgium.
