The human remains discovered on Saturday morning in the waters of the Eau d’Heure lakes are indeed those of the two Liège divers who went missing after a nocturnal trip to the Plate Taille site in Froidchapelle (Hainaut), indicated Monday at the end of ‘afternoon the Charleroi public prosecutor’s office. The two men were apparently caught by a submerged turbine.
The two divers born in 1964 and 1977, originally from the Liège region, had been missing since their night dive carried out Thursday evening around 5:00 p.m. on the Plate Taille site at the Lacs de l’Eau d’Heure, an unauthorized place for such activity. The son of one of the divers had alerted the authorities, worried about not having any news from his dad and after discovering the latter’s vehicle parked on the scene.
The search, which began Thursday evening with the support of civil protection divers equipped with sonar, made it possible to discover equipment belonging to two different people at the end of the day on Friday. The excavations, which resumed on Saturday morning, finally led to the discovery of human remains. The Charleroi public prosecutor’s office confirmed that the examination of these remains made it possible to confirm that they belong to the two missing divers. “They would have been caught by a huge turbine present in the watercourse,” the judicial authority said on Monday.
