Kovalam: Father and daughter dead after ingestion of poison. The mother and son were admitted to the hospital in critical condition. The police believe that the householder poisoned the others through pills without their knowledge.
Sivarajan (56) and daughter Abhirami (22) died at Venganur Pullanimuk Sathyan Memorial Road Shivabindu. Sivarajan’s wife Bindu (50) and son Arjun (19) were admitted to the Medical College Hospital.
Police say that Sivarajan committed suicide due to debt. Vizhinjam KSRTC Bindu is a temporary employee at the depot. In the past days, Sivarajan used to give everyone a pill called B complex at night. Police said it is suspected that cyanide was mixed with the pill given on Thursday night. At three in the morning, son Arjun, who had vomited, reached his father and mother’s room and called them. After he did not respond, his younger brother, who lives in Kalluvettankuzhi, called Satish on the phone and told him about the matter. They were brought to the hospital by Satish. The death of Sivarajan and Abhirami was confirmed by the ambulance nurse. Then Vizhinjam informed the police. Ambulance staff gave emergency treatment to Bindu and his son Arjun and shifted them to the hospital. Arjun’s condition improved by afternoon. Bindu has not crossed the danger zone.
The loan taken to buy the house is in debt
Sivarajan, a goldsmith, rented a shop in Pulingudi and worked on gold jewellery. Loans were taken from Kanjiramkulam and Karamana branches of KSFE and Venganur Service Co-operative Bank for building a house in Pullanimuk. During the covid period, their repayment was stopped. Repeatedly borrowing money from friends on interest for repayment led to more debt.
Finally, when KSFE and the bank sent notices, they decided to sell the house. But that amount was not enough to buy another house after paying off the debt, relatives said. Relatives believe that Sivarajan tried to commit suicide by poisoning his wife and children. Meanwhile, Bindu’s 85-year-old mother Kanyamma, who came to stay at home a month ago, came to know about the incident in the morning.
The Vizhinjam police said that the post-mortem revealed that there was a liquid similar to cyanide in the bodies of the dead. The police said that Arjun escaped the danger because he vomited the pills. After completing graduation, P.S.C. Abhirami was preparing for the exam. Arjun is a first year graduate student in Kariyavatta.
Vizhinjam SHO Prajeesh Shashi, SIs Harshakumar, G. Vinod, Sr. CPO. Vinita Kumari reached the house in Pullanimuk and completed the police procedures including the inquest of the dead bodies of Sivarajan and Abhirami. After the post-mortem, the cremation was conducted at the community crematorium at Kalluvetankuzhi at 6 pm.
