Euseglimar González | LA PRENSA DE LARA.- A tragedy surrounded Crespo, two farmers died after suffering burns on their bodies from a fire that occurred in the El Cedral hamlet, Crespo municipality.

It was learned that on Sunday afternoon, in the area they began to observe a strong fire on the neighboring farm and the two farmers decided to go over to see what was happening.

They both arrived to where the fire was starting, because one of them had cows and was afraid that something was going to happen to them. At the time the two farmers were at the site, apparently, a strong wind caused the flames to change direction and they were trapped.

The two men could not escape and were covered by the raging fire, which caused severe injuries to their bodies and took their lives.

A police source commented that although people tried to help them, it was already too late, as they remembered that everything happened very quickly.

The source explained that apparently it was an agricultural burn, which is the burning of plant remains that remain after agricultural and forestry tasks. Although it would be security officials who determine the causes of the incident.

The bodies were taken to the morgue of the Antonio María Pineda Central Hospital and an autopsy would be performed this Monday.

LA PRENSA tried to locate the relatives to give more details of what happened, but it was not possible, since they were not in the vicinity of the morgue.

On the lookout

Since December, several forest fires have been recorded in the state of Lara and that is why the authorities have been on the lookout and asking people to be aware.

Days ago, the governor, Adolfo Pereira, indicated that more than 200 forest fires have been recorded throughout the country.

“Where there are people involved, they are being attended to and citizens are placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry,” he said.
