Mr. Langlois, best known as a visual effects genius in Quebec, was very involved on the Caribbean island where he operated the Coulibri Ridge, an eco-responsible hotel complex nestled near Soufrière, in the south of the Caribbean island. .

“He was seen as a very loving person, a community oriented person, warm […]. He was seen in high esteem not only by the people of this community, but by people in Dominica in general,” experienced Dominican journalist Carlisle Jno Baptiste told the QMI Agency.

The Quebecer notably contributed to the reconstruction of the island following the passage of Hurricane Maria in 2017, but also invested in schools, which earned him a good reputation in Dominica.

“Daniel and Dominique were not just the owners of a hotel, they were full members of our community known for their kindness, their love and their commitment,” commented the representative to the Dominican Parliament of Soufrière on Monday, Denise Charles-Pemberton, quoted by the Dom767 information site.

The news of the couple’s death shook the country. “People were in shock. There is a lot of anger in the community,” assured Mr. Jno Baptiste.

To date, four suspects have been arrested by the police, including Jonathan Lehrer and his partner, who lived on the estate neighboring that of Mr. Langlois. A chicane for access to a public road might have served as a motive for the suspect who had lived in Dominica for around twenty years.

Unlike his neighbor, Mr. Lehrer had a bad reputation. “People say Jonathan is not a community-oriented person. […] He is seen as a thug. He has huge dogs and he let his dogs go following people in the community,” said Carlisle Jno Baptiste.

In Dominica, suspects arrested by the police can remain detained for 72 hours without any charge before having to be released. Authorities therefore have until Wednesday to determine whether charges will be filed, depending on the progress of their investigation.
