The lawyer Julio Paredes, who specialized in immigration issues in the United States, originally from Durango and residing in Arlington, Texas, died last Friday after a tragic incident during a brawl at a fair.
The 50-year-old lawyer was intentionally hit by a vehicle along with his brother Israel after a fistfight with other men in a parking lot, leaving a deep pain for his family.
As a result of the incident, Paredes sustained serious injuries, including a punctured lung. Before he died, the lawyer fought for his life for hours at the 450 Hospital in Durango.
The General Prosecutor’s Office of the State (FGE) of Durango announced the arrest of the doctor Jahasiel Adonahy “N”, presumably involved in the crime of qualified homicide in attempt against Julio and Israel Paredes Gallegos. With the death of the lawyer, it is expected that another charge of qualified homicide will be brought against the doctor.
Paredes had five children with his wife Zaira and was dedicated to fulfilling his commitment to help migrants have better opportunities and keep families united, achieving residency cards for them.
Weeks before the incident, the lawyer celebrated through a post on social media the issuance of a residency card to one of his clients.
“We continue to keep families united! There are many things about being a lawyer that are very stressful and unpleasant, but bringing joy to families is one of those very satisfying things that makes us very happy to share. Now we are delivering a residency card to our client Gladis Bailon, who will now be able to stay united with her family thanks to our work. One more step towards a future full of opportunities and family unity!” he wrote in the post.
