A 22-year-old cyclist was killed during the night from Wednesday to Thursday in Oudenaarde, in East Flanders, following being hit by a car, says the East Flanders prosecutor’s office. The driver of the car was arrested and his driving license was immediately revoked.

The accident occurred around 11:20 p.m. in rue d’Alost in Oudenaarde. “This is a collision between a private car and a cyclist, in which the cyclist died,” said the prosecution. “An expert was appointed to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident. The driving license of the driver of the car, a 37-year-old man from Oudenaarde, was immediately revoked for a period of 15 days and he been arrested,” said the prosecution, which did not provide further information.

The driver of the car is an alderman in Oudenaarde. It is not yet clear under what circumstances the collision occurred.
