As reported by the Villach mountain rescue service, a 56-year-old man from Germany was hiking on the Mallestiger Mittagskogel on Thursday. Shortly before reaching the summit, at an altitude of regarding 1800 meters, he probably suffered a heart attack.
Wife and nephew alerted rescue workers
The wife and nephew, who accompanied the couple on the hike, made the emergency call and immediately began resuscitating the man. The emergency doctor helicopter Christophorus 11 was alerted. Due to the difficult flight conditions caused by fog and cumulus clouds, it was difficult for him to reach the site. The C11 medical team continued the resuscitation following reaching him. The Villach mountain rescue service was alerted at the same time.
Any help came too late
Two mountain rescuers were flown to the summit by the police helicopter “Libelle” and supported the rescue and resuscitation measures – unfortunately these were unsuccessful. The persons accompanying the deceased were flown by the Libelle team to the Baumgartnerhof, Gde.
