A Virginia man was killed when a tree collapsed on his home during a powerful storm that hit the DC area on Saturday.

The victim was identified as 44-year-old Kenneth Allan Lee Jr. His wife said she was showering at her Prince William County home when the tree fell around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. He was a web designer in Quantico’s Marine and Family Programs Division.

“Lee was a fantastic father and a wonderful husband who will be greatly missed,” his wife said.

Thousands are still without power and roads were closed on the Sunday following the storm.

The cold front that moved in Saturday to offer relief following three days of extreme heat and humidity interacted with that heat and humidity to create powerful storms that left more than 200,000 customers without power in DC, Maryland and Virginia at any given time.

A large tree fell on a car in the 2900 block of Foxhall Road NW in DC, injuring two people. One is in serious condition, the other has minor injuries.

The downed tree crashed through the windshield of a Mazda, covering it with leaves and branches.

A neighbor said it was the worst storm he had seen in the area in 18 years.

“You cannot take life in the 21st century for granted. I mean mother nature rules whether it’s sun, heat or snow,” the neighbor recounted. “And once more, Mother Nature showed up with a ferocious storm.”
