Bonney-Rae Barrow, 15, captured her final moments as the van she was a passenger in left the road, slammed into a metal barrier and plunged into a ravine, five meters below. Before that, the 24-year-old driver had just inhaled laughing gas and was driving dangerously, reports the Manchester Evening News.
But the teenager also captured the moment the driver, a friend of hers, inhaled nitrous oxide from a balloon on that horror evening in July. Cameron Hughes, 24, is now in prison following the smash which “annihilated” young Bonney-Rae.
Police said that during Bonney-Rae’s 35-minute drive, several reports were made regarding the van’s manner of driving. He was traveling along the emergency lane, straddling the lanes and, on a bend, the vehicle left the road violently before plunging into a ravine.
“This was shocking conduct and a 15-year-old’s life was needlessly destroyed,” Judge Heather Lloyd told the driver. “It’s a miracle no other people were wiped out, including yourself.” It was a tragedy waiting to happen. »
Following the sentencing, Sergeant Laura Kendall, of Lancashire Police, said: “Bonney was a much-loved, bubbly teenager whose life was cruelly taken away. My heart goes out to his family and friends who were so affected by his tragic loss. »
