Crystal Villegas, a 31-year-old American, contracted meningitis following having her breasts done at a Matamoros clinic in Tamaulipas, Mexico, reports the Sun. She unfortunately passed away on July 30.
She is among 10 Americans who have died from infections linked to two Mexican clinics, according to recent figures from the Center for Disease Control.
“I wish this was all just a bad dream that we might wake up from and come back to on the eve of the operation and somehow convince her not to go,” said Juan Tapia, Crystal’s husband. “It was a difficult four months, she fought hard and never gave up. »
In the days following the operation, the mother began to complain of severe headaches and her condition continued to worsen with a high fever. After going to the ER, tests revealed she had meningitis, an infection of the protective membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord, causing high temperature, headaches, stiff neck and sensitivity to light.
“Please be aware of the risks of cosmetic surgeries,” urges her husband, who now wants to educate people who, like his wife, are looking for cheap surgery without extensive research.
