A terrible tragedy took place this Tuesday morning, in one of the apartment buildings on the Champ de Gernevaux alley in Mont-sur-Marchienne (southern district of Charleroi). A five-year-old child fell from one of the windows of the apartment on the 5th floor. “The child lived with his mother and two other children. One is smaller and the sister is 6 years old,” says Daniel Marliere, press magistrate at the Charleroi prosecutor’s office, confirming the information published by various local media.
An investigation is open, the mother will be auditioned
At the time of writing these lines, the circumstances of the tragedy are unknown. The file has been put under investigation and the local judicial police of Charleroi (PJL) is in charge of the delicate investigation which will in particular lead to the hearing of the mother and the two other children occupying the accommodation. “A raid on the scene is planned. No deprivation of liberty takes place,” adds the prosecution. This is the procedure, even in the event of an accident.
Already a similar incident in 2017
This is not the first time that such an event has occurred in the district. On August 16, 2017, 4-year-old Thao was found dead at the foot of the building where he lived with his parents, following falling from the sixth-floor apartment. It was the same building. The prosecution, which was prosecuting the parents, had requested an acquittal.
