Just following 5 p.m. on the 26th, two people, a woman and a girl in their 40s, were hit by a car while walking on the sidewalk in Takaido Higashi, Suginami Ward, Tokyo.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the two, who appear to be a father and son, were both hit hard in the head and stomach and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The car was reversing out of an auto repair shop on the side of the sidewalk, hit the two people, then went straight across the two-lane road in one direction and crashed into the fence on the opposite sidewalk.
The Metropolitan Police Department arrested the suspect, Kota Urushihara (50) of Higashimurayama City, Tokyo, who was a company employee and was driving the car, on the spot on suspicion of negligent driving causing injury.
We will now change the charge to negligent driving causing death and investigate the detailed circumstances of the accident.
The site is located approximately 500 meters northeast of Takaido Station on the Keio Inokashira Line, in an area lined with residential buildings and supermarkets.
