Melbourne: Five Indians from two families were killed when a car rammed into a pub. The tragic incident took place in Victoria, Australia. Among the dead were two children. News.com.au reported that all the deceased were from two families of Indian origin. The incident happened on Sunday in Daylesford, Victoria.
Police said a white BMW SUV drove onto the sidewalk and struck people standing on the front lawn of the Royal Daylesford Hotel. Victorian Chief Police Commissioner Shane Patton said four people died at the scene. The deceased were identified as Vivek Bhatia (38), son Vihan (11), Pratibha Sharma (44), daughter Anvi (nine) and partner Jatin Chugh (30). Anvi was rushed to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne but died on Sunday evening.
Vivek Bhatia’s 36-year-old wife Ruchi and six-year-old son Abeer were admitted to the hospital with serious injuries. The car was driven by a 66-year-old man from Mount Macedon. He was also admitted to the hospital with injuries. The commissioner said that the driver was tested and was not drunk. Further tests will be conducted to find out if any other drugs were used.
