A tragedy occurred this Wednesday, June 7, 2023 in the parking lot of Saint-Joseph hospital in Gilly. A 6-month-old baby died in a car following being forgotten by his mother, a hospital employee.
The lady was supposed to drop off her child at the hospital crèche but obviously forgot to do so. The baby remained locked in the car for several hours, in the sun. It was a guard who discovered the child around 5:30 p.m. The emergency services then intervened, but it was too late.
A witness, who accompanied her companion for a medical appointment at 5:30 p.m., noticed a strong commotion in the parking lot. “We might clearly see at the back of the car park an ambulance, a SMUR and police vehicles. People seemed agitated, collapsed. Others were holding their heads. At the secretariat, an employee was crying on the phone. I heard that it would be the guard who would have found the child. I asked the doctor what was going on and he told me that it was a horrible drama”, she confides.
Bel-RTL specifies that an autopsy will have to take place to determine the exact causes of death. The prosecution should provide more details this Thursday morning.
