A 1-year-old baby died following being left in a car for nine hours in Washington state.

Local police said on the 30th that a 1-year-old baby was found dead in a car parked outside a hospital in Puyallup, Washington on the 24th (local time).

The baby, being raised by a hospital social worker, was left alone in the car while the social worker worked a nine-hour day.

The woman went to work past 8:00 am following dropping off other children before going to work.

However, he forgot that the 1-year-old was in the car and found it only following returning to the car around 5pm for work.

The baby was immediately taken to the hospital, but was already dead.

The temperature outside at the time was 21.1 to 23.8 degrees, but the temperature inside the car was 43.3 degrees, the police explained.

This is the fifth time this year that a baby has died following being left in a car in the United States.

An average of 38 children under the age of 15 die each year in hot cars, most of them in the summer. Last year, 33 children died.

2018 and 2019 each saw the highest number of deaths in a single year, with 53 deaths.
