A police officer died following being involved in a crash in Hartford, Connecticut, on Wednesday night, in which a second officer was injured, according to Hartford police.
A police patrol was involved in the accident in the area of Asylum Avenue near Cogswell Street.
According to police, a second officer was hospitalized in stable condition, but under surveillance.
A portion of Asylum Avenue remained blocked off for several hours while police conducted their investigation.
It’s unclear what happened before the crash, but Hartford police say a suspect is in custody.
Several police officers held a vigil outside St. Francis Hospital Thursday morning. Shortly following 4:30 a.m., officers led a procession from the hospital to escort the body of the fallen officer to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington.
Hartford Police Chief Jason Thody planned to release more information regarding the incident Thursday morning.
