(CNN Spanish) — A pilot of the Bolivarian Military Aviation of Venezuela died this Sunday in an accident in which his co-pilot was injured and is under medical observation, as reported by the National Armed Forces in a statement.
According to the text, both crew members managed to eject before the plane – a Russian-made Sukhoi 30 Mk2 – fell to the ground in the Guacaipuro municipality of Miranda state.
The pilots participated in preparation exercises for the celebrations of the Independence Day of Venezuela, next July 5.
President Nicolas Maduro regretted the accident via Twitter and reported that the co-pilot of the aircraft “remains alive and is being treated by health specialists” from the Armed Forces.
The statement added that an investigation has been launched to determine the causes of the incident.
