Four people were killed and nine others injured in an accident involving a vehicle carrying migrants on a highway in northern Mexico, authorities said Sunday.
The Mexican National Institute of Migration (Inami) reported that the event occurred on the Matehuala-Saltillo highway in the state of Nuevo León, when a truck carrying migrants collided with a passenger bus.
Through a statement, Inami specified that the accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, near the municipality of Galeana.
What is known regarding the victims?
Mexican authorities identified the nationality of only one of the victims, who was Honduran.
“Unfortunately, the bodies of three people who were traveling in the tractor-trailer were located in the place, of which only one had documentation that allows determining that it originated from Honduras,” the authorities said.
“Inside the bus, the lifeless body of a person of Mexican nationality, who was traveling as a co-pilot, was located,” they added.
Among the injured, Inami assured that six were from Honduras, one from Ecuador and another from Cuba. He added that they receive hospital care at two hospitals close to the accident site. They also reported that a minor under the age of 16, a Honduran national who had been injured, was discharged and placed under the guardianship of the Mexican authorities.
All the wounded will receive visitor cards for humanitarian reasons, Inami added.
