The two people who died in the serious accident which occurred Monday morning on the Brussels inner ring near Zaventem are two Algerian musicians, the Hal-Vilvoorde prosecutor’s office reported on Monday. These are Mohamed Bousmaha and Mohamed Benaired, known as Amine La Colombe, two artists from the world of raï. The announcement made Monday morning by the Algerian record company AVM Édition was confirmed by the Hal-Vilvoorde public prosecutor’s office in the evening.

Mohamed Bousmaha (born in 1987) began his career in the television show “Alhan Wa Chabab”, before making a name for himself in the raï world. He notably participated in several editions of the National Cultural Festival of Raï Song in Algeria. Mohamed Benaired (born in 1984), musician and pianist, has collaborated with numerous raï artists. The two men collaborated on a European tour, which included Belgium.
Mohamed Bousmaha and Mohamad Benaired were both in a vehicle which collided with a truck on Monday around 4:15 a.m., just following exit 3 towards Brussels-National airport. According to the driver of the truck, the car had taken the exit ramp before the motorist reversed his decision and suddenly decided to return to the ring.
“The driver anticipated by changing lanes to leave room for the car, but the driver of the latter tried to turn right just before the truck. The driver of the truck was then unable to avoid the other vehicle,” explained the spokesperson for the Hal-Vilvoorde public prosecutor’s office, Sabine Lievens.
The driver of the car, aged 57 and from Evere, was seriously injured. Mohamed Benaired, 39, who was a rear passenger, was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He landed on the central berm and died instantly. Mohamed Bousmaha, who was taken to hospital seriously injured, died Monday followingnoon.
