New Delhi: It is reported that 55 sailors were killed in the accident of a Chinese nuclear submarine in the Yellow Sea. The cause of the disaster was a malfunction of the submarine’s oxygen system. With this, the submarine was filled with poisonous gas. According to a report from the UK, the ship collided with another object due to a technical fault and was unable to anchor. But China has denied this report.

The Daily Mail, citing a UK intelligence report, said the dead included PLA Navy Submarine 093-417’s captain, Colonel Xu Yong-peng, and 21 other officers.

The Yellow Sea is a bay in the western Pacific Ocean between northeastern China and the Korean Peninsula. The Chinese submarine, which was on a mission here, met with an accident on August 21 at 8.12 local time. The 22 officers include seven officer cadets, nine petty officers and 17 sailors. The Chinese submarine rammed into obstacles placed by US and other allied submarine destroyers. It took six hours to fix the problem. Meanwhile, the mariners were dying tragically as the oxygen supply dwindled.
