The emergency services were indeed called at 1:07 a.m. to intervene at Polissal, in the town of Saint-Félix-de-Lunel, for a motorcycle accident. On the spot, the fifteen firefighters mobilized could only note the death of the young pilot, who had ties in Aveyron.
An investigation entrusted to the gendarmes of Marcillac-Vallon
While an investigation was entrusted to the community of brigades of Marcillac-Vallon in an attempt to understand the exact circumstances of this tragedy, the organizers suspended the event, called to continue this Saturday July 15, on roads around Villecomtal .
And asked all the pilots and the members of the jury to meet in the village hall to determine what to do with the event. Many pilots then learned of the tragedy that had occurred during the night.
“A collective choice”
“Following the pilots’ meeting led by the race management, it was decided by a majority to resume the race, in a modified formula”, announced the organizers at the time. The modification consisting in not taking the section of the event which passed through Polissal. If a few pilots chose not to start again, the majority of the 150 still in contention opted for the continuation of the competition.
At the end of the day, Dorian Séquies explained: “This choice to continue the competition is a collective choice. It has already happened in other motorcycle rallies. In any case, no decision has been easy to make since There was this drama. We hope we made the right choice”.
A strange day
On social networks, the pilots did not hide having lived a strange day. “End of the Dourdou rally, it was… special… But arrived at the end”, posted on his Facebook page Antoine Asfaux, winner of the last European trophies.
“The atmosphere was a little less heavy after the event, which is also why we made this choice. But the heart is obviously not at the party”, slipped Damien Sequiès, a few hours before the presentation of the price.
