Tragedy Strikes: Little Assya’s Fatal Accident and its Aftermath

Last Wednesday, little Assya was knocked down shortly following the end of her hockey training in Saint-Vaast. The perpetrator, following fleeing, then called the police to come and arrest him. He was then placed not behind bars but under electronic surveillance at home. A situation that his lawyer Me Lauvaux wanted to extend, who had requested it once more when he appeared before the Council Chamber this Monday morning.

This Monday followingnoon, the Council Chamber of the Mons court confirmed this decision and Michel A. will be kept at home with an electronic bracelet. “The expertise proves it, my client was driving at a maximum of 30/40 km/h at the time of the impact,” explains Me Lauvaux, lawyer for Michel A., the author of the tragedy. “He was surprised by the presence of the little girl on the road.”

The drama took place last Wednesday.

The hit-and-run issue remains. “It is true that his attitude followingwards raises questions,” admits Me Lauvaux. “Fear ? Panic ? With his loved ones, he subsequently decided to notify the police so that they might come and get him. My client is appalled, devastated by the facts for which he considers himself responsible and is facing his responsibilities in this tragedy.”

A tragedy which therefore cost the life of little Assya, 9 years old, who had just joined the La Louvière hockey club and who, whatever the circumstances, should never have lost her life so young.
