The FCC – Common Front for Congo – rejected, this Thursday, August 5, the official report of the recent carnage that occurred following the attempted escape of prisoners from the former central prison of Makala.
The political family of the Honorary President of the Republic claims that the figures given have been knowingly underestimated, to minimize the seriousness of what it describes as an “unspeakable crime”, and demands the urgent establishment of a credible independent commission of inquiry, which will have to establish the exact number of victims, as well as responsibilities at all levels.
“The FCC maintains that the credibility of the official report on the CPRK tragedy is seriously questionable, due in particular to the cacophony between contradictory government versions, testimonies collected by specialized NGOs, those collected on site immediately after the events were committed, as well as photos and videos of the lifeless bodies taken at the scene of the tragedy and widely distributed since then,” it wrote in its press release.
However, he points to the government as the primary person responsible for the tragedy.
“The FCC emphasizes that this tragedy, which is the most recent, but certainly not the last in a macabre series, is in line with the clear order given expressis verbis by the President of the Republic, on June 23, 2023, at the Kashala Bonzala stadium in Mbuji-mayi,” we read.
As a reminder, the provisional official report states 129 dead, including 24 by gunfire, 59 injured and several women raped.
