Reuters reported, citing local police information, that officers tried to resuscitate Baldock at his home in Glyfada, near Athens. Unfortunately, the attempts were unsuccessful.
The footballer’s wife was looking for him for several hours. She contacted the owner of the house where Baldock lived. He was the one who found the footballer in the pool.
On Sunday, the 31-year-old right-back played a prestigious Greek league match against Olympiakos Piraeus (0-0). He joined the Athens team this summer from Sheffield United.
“We are in shock at the loss of our George. The Panathinaikos family mourns his untimely death,” wrote one of the most successful Greek football clubs.
Baldock was born in Buckingham, England, but represented the Greek national team (his grandmother was Greek). He made his debut in 2022 and played in a total of 12 matches.
