After an 18-year-old died from a ball bomb that was detonated too early, according to the police, a boy of the same age has died from his injuries in the Wiener Neustadt state hospital. Two other people were injured in the incident.
Several locals detonated ball bombs shortly before 0.30 a.m. on New Year’s Eve in a field in St. Johann am Steinfelde, a cadastral municipality of Ternitz. The dead person is likely to have been in the immediate vicinity of the firecracker when the explosion occurred, and a person of the same age was flown to a hospital in Graz by the emergency helicopter with serious injuries.
A 17-year-old and an 18-year-old were taken to the Wiener Neustadt State Hospital with injuries. The older of the two has now succumbed to his injuries, the executive said on Saturday. The public prosecutor’s office in Wiener Neustadt has started investigations on suspicion of grossly negligent homicide and negligent bodily harm once morest unknown perpetrators.
