Tragedy in Peru: 20 dead and about 30 injured when a bus fell into the precipice

Twenty people died including a four-year-old girl, and thirty were injured when a bus fell into an abyss on a country road in northern Perulocal authorities reported this Thursday.

The bus got confused and rolled into a 100-meter abyss on Wednesday followingnoon, while traveling the route between Tayabamba and Trujillo, in the La Libertad region, northwestern Peru, the AFP agency reported.

The accident they met hours later due to the distance from Tayabamba, one of the most remote Andean towns in this coastal region of northern Peru.

According to what was reported by the Regional Health Management of La Libertad, the group, belonging to the transport company Picaflor Tours, covered the route between Pataz and Trujillo.

“The vehicle got out of control in the La Culebrilla sector on Wednesday followingnoon,” they explained.

According to AFP, between Trujullo and Tayabamba there are 340 kilometers, but the bus route takes 14 hours.

For its part, Channel N of Peruvian television explained that the bad state of the road would have been the cause of the catastrophe, since “it forced a sudden maneuver by the driver”.

They also detailed that accidents on Peruvian roads are frequent due to speeding, the poor condition of the routes, the lack of signage and the lack of control by the authorities.

The most recent accident had occurred on November 29, when 10 people diedincluding a child, following a minibus fell off a cliff on a jungle route in northern Peru, between the cities of Chachapoyas and Moyobamba in the Amazon region, 1,000 km north of Lima.
