Two men on a scooter were hit by a police car following a refusal to comply in Aubervilliers this Wednesday March 13. The driver, aged 18, died. His relatives testify in the press.

“He wasn’t a mean guy or aggressive.” This Wednesday, March 13, early in the evening, two men on a scooter were hit by a police car following a refusal to comply in Aubervilliers, in Seine-Saint-Denis. The driver of the two-wheeler, aged 18, died of his injuries in hospital.

The day following the tragedy, his father and his brother spoke in the press to recount this evening. Wanys was the third of his siblings. His father, Farid, was warned by his eldest son. “He told me: ‘Wanys, he has a problem. You have to come. He died at Salpêtrière,'” the father confided to Le Parisien.

“They just announced that he had died”

Arriving at Pitié-Salpêtrière, he stood in front of his son’s remains. “I was told I might stay as long as I wanted.” Some 300 people also came: “the whole neighborhood was there”.

One of his brothers also told RTL regarding this evening of Wednesday March 13. “They called me, they told me he had been in a motorcycle accident. I ran, we found the hospital where he was, they said he was dead, but we don’t know not of what, not why he died, nor how, in what circumstances,” he explained.

“They just announced that he had died, my little brother. The cause, basically, of death, a hemorrhage. But they didn’t explain to us why, how, what car he crashed. We didn’t “didn’t see the police,” he added.

“We just want peace”

According to a source close to the investigation at RMC, Wanys increased the number of traffic offenses while driving at high speed. A first team of police officers attempted to arrest the driver and his passenger, but the duo refused to comply with the orders of the police.

Chased by a first police vehicle, the scooter then tried to overtake an imposing vehicle. But during the attempt to overtake, a second crew of police officers, belonging to the anti-crime brigade, moved in the wrong direction to avoid a taxi which refused to give them priority. It was at this moment that the scooter crashed into the police car.

Today, Wanys’ brother asks that “justice be done for (his) little brother and that we know exactly the why and the how”. “We don’t want anything else. We just want peace, and for my mother to get over it, that’s all.”

His father, Farid, wonders. “What fun are you going to have chasing (a scooter) in traffic? You have the registration!” “If you attack the police, it’s the biggest who eats the smallest,” he emphasizes. “He was very generous. He would take off his jacket to give it to you. He wasn’t a mean or aggressive guy.”

Two investigations were opened by the public prosecutor’s office following the fatal collision: the first, entrusted to the Aubervilliers police station for the refusal to comply and the second, carried out by the IGPN, for “homicide” and “involuntary injuries” .
