Kochi: A music festival held at the Kochi University of Science and Technology as part of the Tech Fest ended in a major tragedy. An unexpected accident shocked the entire campus and claimed the lives of four students while the children were enjoying the singing performance of Bollywood singer Nikita Gandhi. More than fifty children were injured in the accident. It is reported that the condition of two girls is very serious. Students from all the departments of Cusat and students from the School of Engineering were present in the auditorium. Today was the last day of the Tech Fest which has been going on for the past three days.
People’s representatives who came to the scene said that the entrance to the Ganasandhya which was a part of this was restricted only to the children of the department. But more people were waiting outside the gate to enter the open auditorium. The cause of the accident was when the gate was pushed open when the rain started and the children tried to enter in a group. The students who crossed the gate were in a rush and fell to the stairs below. The preliminary conclusion is that the cause of death is that they were kicked by those who pushed them following them without realizing they had fallen.

Cusat Vice Chancellor PG Sankaran said that it was a very unfortunate incident. After the inauguration of the technical fest yesterday, various competitions and professional talks were held. A musical program called Ganasandhya was organized by the children today. Students from the School of Engineering and other departments were also there to participate in the program. Also, students from the nearby college and nearby residents attended the event. The Vice-Chancellor said that the current information available is that with the downpour, everyone tried to get inside and children fell down on the steps at the entrance.
