Once once more, the executive has targeted speeders and too loud or tuned vehicles, this time in Wels and Wels-Land. And once more there was an alarming number of speed drivers and vehicles with technical defects.
On Saturday night, the police measured the speed of around 5,500 vehicles – 185 drivers were driving too fast and were reported. Drivers who were almost twice as fast in a 70 zone were particularly quick. Furthermore, an alcoholic with 1.8 per thousand alcohol in the blood was withdrawn from the market.
57 reports of technical defects
Experts then supported the police with the tuning checks: 36 vehicles were checked more closely and a number of them were scrutinized by test technicians. The result: 57 reports of technical defects, the license plates of four vehicles were removed immediately. According to Infrastructure Councilor Günther Steinkellner (FPÖ), these priority checks are important to make the streets safer.
For the Wels security officer, Vice Mayor Gerhard Kroiß (FPÖ), the present balance sheet would confirm the need for increased police controls, as he announced on Saturday.
