Traffic Update: E40 Landfill Cleanup Causes Major Delays – Follow Diversions and Avoid the Area!

There is almost an hour of traffic jam on the E40 from Ghent to Brussels this Tuesday morning due to a landfill near Groot-Bijgaarden, just before the Brussels ring road. Only the left lane towards Koekelberg is still clear. However, the E40 will be completely closed at the Ternat exit for clearing work. This is what the Flemish Traffic Center reports.

A truck lost offal near the Groot-Bijgaarden parking lot, which was spread by traffic. Firefighters are trying to clean up the dirt, but it may take some time. There is a traffic jam of almost an hour until Affligem.

“This comes on top of the already very busy morning rush hour due to the rain, with many accidents,” said Peter Bruyninckx, spokesperson for the Flemish Traffic Center.

Currently, the left lane in the direction of Koekelberg is still free, but the E40 will be completely closed until the Ternat exit for difficult cleaning work, where traffic will have to follow a diversion.

The Vlaams Verkeerscentrum asks the population to follow the diversions and avoid the area around the E40 as much as possible. To go from Ghent to Hasselt, it is best to go via Antwerp. From Ghent to Brussels, it is best to take the E17, the N16 (Temse bridge) and the A12.
