“During an accident in the direction of Waterloo, a truck hit the construction site of a billboard,” said Peter Bruyninckx of the Flemish Traffic Centre. “The sign hanging over the full width of the ring has been damaged” and traffic had to be brought to a complete stop.
This is why motorists departing from Wezembeek-Oppem still have to take into account a 45-minute delay on their journey to Waterloo. In the direction of Zaventem, there are temporarily queues from the Genappe exit.
The Flemish traffic agency says the billboard will be removed tonight and the damaged structure will need to be reinforced. “A contractor with a crane is on the way,” she says. “He is escorted by the police.”
Drivers from Waterloo wishing to head north via the RO are advised to favor the western flank of the ring.
Around 6.30 p.m., the exit to Hoeilaart could be reopened for commuters from the Brussels ring. No more deviations are to be reported in the sector.
