Traffic Accidents in Urban Areas: 23 Dead, 2,353 Injured – LeSiteinfo with MAP

Twenty-three people died and 2,353 were injured, including 87 seriously, in 1,827 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas during the week from September 18 to 24.

These accidents are mainly due to the inadvertence of drivers, failure to respect the priority, the inadvertence of pedestrians, excessive speed, failure to respect the safety distance, changing direction without using signal, failure to control vehicles, failure to obey the stop sign, unauthorized change of direction, failure to comply with the red light, driving in the left lane, faulty overtaking, driving in the wrong direction and driving while intoxicated, indicated the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in a press release.

Concerning the control and repression of traffic offenses, the security services issued 41,911 tickets and drew up 7,604 reports submitted to the public prosecutor’s office, while 34,307 transactional fines were recovered, reports the same source.

The sums collected for these fines reached 7,421,500 dirhams, according to the press release which reports the municipal impoundment of 4,766 vehicles, the seizure of 7,604 documents and the withdrawal from circulation of 266 vehicles.
