According to the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), traditional midwifery is an ancient practice practiced mainly by women who have transcended throughout history and who survive despite the limitations they face for their exercise until the day they die. today.

In the country there are more than 20 thousand traditional midwives, 100 professional midwives graduated and 16 thousand 684 graduates in nursing and obstetrics; In 2021, in Hidalgo, 622 traditional midwives and 22 midwives were identified, who receive training from the SSH and the IMSS Delegation in 12 health jurisdictions such as Molango, Huejutla, Otomí-Tepehua, among others.

In Mexico, projections for 2030 indicate that the population will grow by 19% to reach 143.7 million inhabitants.

Currently the Mexican government and private institutions offer midwifery certification courses with the intention of crossing scientific and traditional knowledge. As of 2014, the CIFRHS, made up of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Public Education, created a subcommittee on midwifery and is working on a proposal for its certification.

The incorporation of professional midwives at the levels of care favors a respected delivery, allowing times and interventions to respond to the physiological processes of birth, achieving the connection between the baby and the mother. In this context, there is the challenge of strengthening primary health care and equitably organizing sexual, reproductive, maternal, and neonatal health services by professional midwives.
