San Luis Potosí, SLP.- Dr. Denisse Atenea de Loera Carrera, researcher at the Faculty of Chemical Sciences of the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí (UASLP), presented at the UANLeer University Book Fair of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León , his work titled “Traditional medicine, cultural and scientific bases”, in collaboration with Dr. Miriam Rubí Gamboa from the Tamazunchale campus of the same institution.

For years, this project has been developed in close collaboration with Dr. Gamboa and traditional doctors, allowing joint research with master’s and doctoral students. Dr. Loera Carrera emphasizes that traditional medicine not only has deep cultural roots, but also significant scientific contributions, as highlighted in her book.

“The idea is to capture all this information regarding the importance of traditional medicine, its advantages and its impact on research, especially in the field of health,” explained Dr. Loera Carrera.

The book also addresses the search for drugs with biological activity from medicinal plants, as well as research carried out at the UASLP and the impact of traditional medicine on tourism, especially in the Huasteca Sur region.

The work involves multiple researchers from different entities within the UASLP, highlighting interdisciplinary collaboration at the university. “There was enormous collaboration of experts on all the topics in the book,” highlighted Dr. Loera Carrera.

The book, useful for students of chemistry and health areas, is available in the University Bookstore, the Graduate Library of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences, as well as in the university libraries of the Tamazunchale and Ciudad Valles campuses.

The visual part of the book, including illustrations and design, was carried out by the Directorate of Editorial Development and Publications of the UASLP. In addition, the opportunity was taken to create an agenda and calendar related to the topic of traditional medicine.
