MINISTER of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan emphasized that the government will not revise the Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) Number 8 of 2024 concerning Import Policies and Regulations.

“What haven’t I given? Someone asked me during the protest demonstration, what haven’t I given? Post border so border I have given, what else?,” said the man who is familiarly called Zulhas when met at the Ministry of Trade office on Tuesday (9/7).

In addition, Zulhas also stated that he had allowed Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) to bring in goods from abroad worth US$500 three times within one year. He also admitted that he had approved the technical considerations (Pertek) related to imported goods requested by the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin).

“PMI has, all the training has been done, right? Who can’t? Who can’t, who cancels it, I’m not here, I’m on duty abroad. I’ve given everything that was asked for,” he said firmly.

As is known, in a working meeting with Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the Indonesian House of Representatives Building, Central Jakarta, yesterday (8/7), Zulhas revealed that he felt reluctant to revise the Trade Ministerial Regulation once more.

“I came back from there (Peru), another meeting (on import regulations) was led by the president. The Minister of Industry proposed that Pertek be included once more, the Trade Minister’s Regulation be changed once more. I object. If not, make your own regulations, don’t just keep having Trade Minister’s Regulation. I’m the bad one,” he said yesterday.

According to him, if the regulation is reintroduced into the Minister of Trade Regulation, it is not certain that it will solve the problem of imported goods.

Zulhas also said that currently the problems related to imported goods have been handled by the Indonesian Trade Security Committee (KPPI).

“Later, it will be reviewed by KPPI, reviewed and checked from the association’s data, which ones went bankrupt, which ones closed. After that, the import duty for security measures will be determined, how much will be calculated to secure our products. From where? From anywhere, it might be from Europe, from Australia, from anywhere, from America, from China, we are not just one country, so it is called BMTP,” he stressed.

The same action, he continued, has also been carried out by the Indonesian Anti-Dumping Committee (KADI), namely conducting a study related to product imports in the last three years. The results of the study will later be in the form of anti-dumping import duties (BMAD).

“We can impose anti-dumping, it will be checked first by KADI. For example, there are ceramics, footwear, we will see later, there are fruits, there are horticultural products, we will see how it has been in the last 3 years, has it increased or killed our business, we can impose BMAD, it is being calculated, that’s the gist of it,” he concluded.
