ALGIERS- The Turkish Ambassador to Algeria, Mahinur Ozdemir Goktas, underlined in Algiers the excellence of Algerian-Turkish relations on the political and economic levels, which was reflected in particular by a clear evolution in the volumes of trade which grew by 30% in 2022.
“Political and economic relations between the two countries are progressing excellently, in particular with the visit of the President of the Algerian Republic Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Turkey. Our trade has increased by 30% in one year to reach 5.3 billion dollars. dollars, despite a period of stagnation in global trade,” Goktas said.
The diplomat was speaking on Wednesday evening during a meeting with Turkish businessmen and economic operators operating in Algeria at the initiative of the World Council for Turkish Affairs (DTIK Algeria), in partnership with the Turkish Embassy, and in which took part the Ministers of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Lakhdar Rekhroukh, and of Health, Abdelhak Saihi.
Noting that the objective set by the two countries to reach 10 billion dollars, both for trade and for Turkish investments in Algeria, is achievable in the long term, Ms. Goktas welcomed the number, in constant evolution, of Turkish companies in Algeria and which are today some 1,550 entities activating in various sectors.
“Today, I would like to affirm that we are the foreign country with the largest number of companies present in Algeria. The amount of our investments in Algeria exceeds 5 billion dollars and the employment capacity exceeds 30,000 employees” , did she say.
In addition to the BTPH and industry, the ambassador expressed the Turkish side’s interest in investing “in the short and medium terms in the energy and agriculture sectors, to which the Algerian State attaches special importance”.
For his part, Okay Tosyali, representative of the DTIK in Algeria, noted the deep and historical ties of friendship between Algeria and Turkey, welcoming Algeria’s outpouring of solidarity towards Turkey following the earthquake which hit the country in early February.
As for the President of the Algerian-Turkish Business Council, on the Algerian side, Maamar Djalel Serandi, he affirmed that the new law on investment is able to open the way to “new partnerships and structuring and solid projects between operators Algerians and Turks” in various fields.
