The events of the last few days have changed the daily life of Venezuelans, especially in the development of economic activity. Businesses in all sectors had to close their doors for three days due to the political and social instability that affects a large part of the national territory.
The complete halt of public transport services affected the performance of commercial establishments, which were forced to close their doors due to the lack of employees and distribution agents.
Public transport was operational yesterday morning, and as the morning progressed, different routes from the different municipalities of the state were incorporated.
In Mario Briceño Iragorry, the La Coromoto, Unión Caña de Azúcar and El Limón lines were activated. Businesses in these same sectors opened their doors and activity continued as normal.
The supermarkets in the area were able to receive suppliers who renewed their inventories, some of which had been exhausted during the first days of the week. These stores remained crowded with people who demanded all kinds of food supplies.
In the center of Maracay, the reactivation was slower, however, it was observed that commerce worked at 70%, compared to previous days. Although there are not many people on the street yet, businesses opened their doors.
THEY WANT TO WORK
Luis Portillo, owner of a cell phone store, said that with four small children and another on the way, he and many other merchants cannot afford to stop working. He noted that they were only able to open their doors yesterday, because transportation was reactivated and the clientele was “small, but they came.”
“We all want the situation to be resolved once and for all, and without violence. We have to work, and then we will see what we can do.”
Alberto Aquino, manager of a shoe store on Perez Almarza Boulevard in Maracay, said that the losses “have been considerable.” He said that they were able to open yesterday because “many of the employees live far away and due to lack of transportation, they were left without workers, so they did not open” until yesterday.
He stressed that they have other premises, but due to a lack of staff, they were only able to open one. He hopes that by today “and the rest of the weekend”, all the workers will be back and the number of people on the street will return to normal.
TRANSPORTERS REACTIVATED |
Bus drivers, drivers and owners of transport vehicles at the Maracay Central Terminal said that they returned to their usual work starting yesterday. An increasing activity could be observed at this land port. Urban and suburban lines were on the different platforms, although with few units.
The bus service with routes to Caracas and Valencia began to operate, as well as to other cities in the country. Although with few passengers, the drivers of the units assured that they would work until four in the afternoon and during normal hours “if demand stabilizes.” |
Eilyn Suárez, president of the Girardot Municipal Institute of Public Transport (Imtragir), explained that “joint work is being carried out with state security agencies to guarantee peace and tranquility within these spaces, since this was one of the concerns of users, transporters and merchants.” She added that they have reactivated transfers by 75%.
For its part, Henry Ávila, driver of a unit that covers the Maracay-San Juan de Los Morros route, said that they hope that starting today the sector will be 100% active, “and the situation will return to normal.”
