Many changes to come on the Stib network: new trams 10 and 35, end of 3, maintenance of 25… here are the details (INFOGRAPHIC)

To ensure service between the canal and Esplanade, left vacant by the disappearance of line 3, a new line was put into service: line 35, between Bienfaiteurs and Esplanade. This also makes it possible to strengthen service on the very busy section of Boulevard Lambermont.

This new line 35 is intended, as a reminder, to be provisional, pending a modification of the route of line 25 next year. “The very temporary creation of line 35 seems a real aberration because this line only serves two purposes: to serve the Esplanade terminus (abandoned by the defunct tram 3), and to reinforce tram 7 between De Wand and Meiser”declared this Wednesday the Gutib (Group of public transport users in Brussels), which pleads for another solution.

The Stib would have done better to extend tram 92 to the Esplanade, as was the case before April 21, 1998.” estimates the association. “The advantage of 92 is that it allows residents of the Mutsaard district to maintain a direct link to the center of Schaerbeek and the upper part of the town, in the absence of a direct link to the lower part of the town. The inhabitants of Neder-over-Heembeek already have a direct connection with the center of Schaerbeek, by bus 56.

To cope with the heavy crowds on the Middle Belt between Princess Elisabeth and Buyl, the think tank “recommends the reinstatement of a tram line, replacing the 35, between Schaerbeek station and Boondael station.”

Line 25 modified from mid-2025

Last year, the idea of removing the 25 was raised. One scenario planned to split this line and create two new ones: 11 (Boondael and Esplanade) and 22 (Rogier to Eurocontrol). Protest movements quickly appeared in the City of Donkeys.

Tram 25 will ultimately not be canceled this fall: “Excellent news for all Schaerbeek residents”

The Stib, in the spring, announced to keep number 25 and act in two stages. Initially after the commissioning of the 10, the route of the 25 was therefore retained and a short-lived line 35 was created. But, in mid-2025, line 25 will be modified: line 35 will disappear, line 11 will be created between Rogier and Bourget and line 25 will then connect Boondael to Esplanade, without passing through Rogier.

From 2025, tram 25 will no longer serve Rogier: “thousands of people will see their daily lives deteriorate”, denounces an elected MR

In this regard, Gutib sounds the alarm: “In view of this announced cancellation of the 25th, the day when tram 11 (future airport line) will be established, the Gutib demands that the direct tram connection between avenue Rogier and the Moyenne Ceinture premetro be maintained, which is a connection in high demand by travelers, for example, by diverting the 62 from Meiser towards the Diamant – Boileau premetro, to a terminus to be created between Pétillon and Arsenal, in place of the old ‘Hansen-Soulie’ stop .”
