Arrested on the sidelines of the peaceful march of the Union of Press Professionals of Guinea this Monday, October 16, 2023 and taken to the Kaloum Court of First Instance, Sékou Jamal Pendessa and the 12 other journalists have just been released following their indictment.
According to lawyer Maître Salifou Beavogui, following their hearing, his clients’ file was taken into flagrant investigation. They were charged with “participation in a criminal assembly on the public highway in accordance with article 627 of the Penal Code”.

However, Me Bea specifies that the accusation once morest the journalists as such is unfounded. According to him, they did not commit any criminal offense.
Furthermore, the lawyer is delighted that his clients have not gone to prison, because according to him, “it might happen”.
The trial of these 13 journalists opens next week before the Kaloum Court. The precise date has not yet been communicated.
