Toyota Recalls Hundreds of Thousands of RAV4s in Canada Over Fire Risk – Find Out if Your Vehicle is Affected

Toyota says the recall affects 249,416 vehicles in Canada. The affected models range from years 2013 to 2018.

According to the notice, some 12-volt replacement batteries of the size specified for vehicles have smaller dimensions than others.

If the top small battery is used for replacement and the retaining clamp is not tightened properly, the battery might move while the vehicle is driven with forced turns, Toyota said in its recall notice.

A sudden movement might cause the positive terminal of the battery to come into contact with the holding clip and cause a short circuit, resulting in a fire, the automaker added in a press release.

Toyota says it is working on a solution and when it becomes available, Toyota dealers would replace the battery retaining clip, battery holder and positive terminal cover free of charge for RAV4 vehicle owners.

Toyota said it would notify affected owners by the end of December.

To check if a vehicle is affected, owners can search for a reminder using their vehicle identification number.
