Jakarta –
Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) responded to rumors of the presence of the Veloz Hybrid electrified car in Indonesia. Previously, the signal for the presence of Toyota hybrid cars at competitive prices was strong because the NJKB had been registered in the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation.
“We are currently studying several new products that we will launch in the next few months. There is still the possibility of a hybrid (product) too. As for the Veloz Hybrid, that’s not yet the case,” said Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) Anton Jimmi Suwandy to journalists at the JIExpo arena, Kemayoran, Jakarta (15/10/2024).
It is known that the signal for the presence of hybrid cars at competitive prices from Toyota has strengthened with the appearance of the engine code W102RE-LBVFJ in Minister of Home Affairs Regulation number 8 of 2024 Basics for Imposing Motor Vehicle Tax and Heavy Equipment Tax in 2024.

The car is strongly suspected to be a Veloz hybrid. In the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation, it is recorded that there are two models that are suspected to be Veloz hybrid, W102RE-LBVFJ 1.5 Q HV CVT and W102RE-LBVFJ 1.5 Q HV CVT TSS. The W102RE-LBVFJ 1.5 Q HV CVT is recorded as having a sales value of IDR 264 million, while the W102RE-LBVFJ 1.5 Q HV CVT TSS has a sales value of IDR 284 million.
According to Anton, even though it has been registered in the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation, it is not a guarantee that Veloz Hybrid will be launched in Indonesia. Can be sold, or just for study purposes.
“It doesn’t guarantee that it will be launched. There are many factors for the unit to be registered. Is the unit used for study? Is it for sale? So, there are many possibilities,” continued Anton.
Previously, Anton had revealed that the prices of hybrid cars are increasingly looking more affordable here. But to launch a hybrid car in the fat segment under Rp. 400 million, you need to be careful.
“Previously, the price of a hybrid was above IDR 500 million, the Zenix came out at around IDR 500 (million), then the Yaris Cross was around IDR 400 (million). We want in the future to be competitive again. But this requires a lot of preparation, communication , discuss with the principal, because this is a very large segment in Indonesia, so we have to be careful in choosing which product, the right timing, and so on,” said Anton.

Toyota’s Veloz Hybrid: The Rumors, the Reassurances, and a Dash of Caution
Hold onto your hats, folks! In the thrilling world of automobiles, Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) is here to keep us all on our toes. Rumors have been swirling about the arrival of the Veloz Hybrid in Indonesia. And like children on a playground when the new toy arrives, everyone is abuzz. But before you start pacing to your nearest dealership, let’s put the brakes on and sort through this electrifying mess!
The Marketing Director of TAM, Anton Jimmi Suwandy, recently addressed the automotive tsunami of gossip. “We’re currently studying several new products that we will launch in the next few months,” he said. Great! It sounds like they’re taking their research very seriously—complete with PowerPoint presentations, no doubt. But hold your applause because the Veloz Hybrid is still in limbo, not yet confirmed for our roads.
Now, here’s where it gets spicy: there’s been a mention of an engine code, W102RE-LBVFJ, linked to the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation number 8 of 2024. Yes, indeed! This mysterious code, much like a Wi-Fi password you can never remember, is associated with two potential Veloz hybrid models. Now, if you’re thinking this sounds a bit like a car industry game of *Guess Who*, you’re not alone!
The spectacular world of hybrid pricing reveals that the W102RE-LBVFJ 1.5 Q HV CVT is tentatively priced at IDR 264 million, while its fancier sibling, the W102RE-LBVFJ 1.5 Q HV CVT TSS, flexes its features at IDR 284 million. Sounds tempting, right?
However, let’s take the proverbial foot off the accelerator. Anton has been clear: just because something is registered doesn’t mean it’s ready for the showroom floor. “There are many factors at play—will it be sold, or is it just for study purposes?” he mused. Ah yes, the plot thickens, my friends. It’s like Netflix canceled your favorite show without warning—upsetting but utterly fascinating!
Previously, Anton made a bold assertion regarding the evolving landscape of hybrid car pricing, hinting that previously unaffordable vehicles are beginning to strut about at more palatable prices. *Hooray for price cuts!* But before we throw our hands in the air like we just don’t care, he cautioned that the under-IDR 400 million segment requires careful navigation. They aren’t just throwing hybrids into the mix like confetti at a parade.
“We want to be competitive again. This requires a lot of preparation, communication, and discussion with the principal,” Anton clarified. It’s a tightrope walk to keep competitivity while keeping prices in check. In Indonesia’s vast automotive landscape, it’s clear they’re taking their sweet time to get it just right—like a chef meticulously crafting a soufflé (which, let’s be honest, is way harder than it looks).
So, my dear car enthusiasts, while the Veloz is lurking in the speculative shadows, it’s essential to keep your excitement in check. Is it coming? Who knows! But one thing’s for sure: the prospect of hybrid vehicles becoming more accessible is a step in the right direction. And who wouldn’t want to save a few bucks at the pump while saving our dear planet?
In summary, keep your ear to the ground, your optimism at the ready, and your wallets—just a tad—secured. We could be on the brink of a green automotive revolution. Or we could just be spinning our wheels in the mud. Who knows? But the journey, oh the journey, will certainly be entertaining!
