Toyota has confirmed that the upcoming 2024 Tacoma will keep its manual transmission. With scant details, the automaker recently teased the latest-generation Tacoma with a single image, one showing three pedals for the new Tacoma.
With this saying:
“Legends are more than automatic; they always come in clutch. The all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma, available with a six-speed manual transmission. Stay tuned for more,” Toyota said.
The only real detail here, other than confirmation of the new truck’s transmission, is the number of forward gears.
A release date for the Tacoma has not yet been specified. The transmission will likely be derived from the last one offered in the current Tacoma. Toyota might also include a low-speed idle like Ford has done with the Bronco manual.
Toyota named an off-road version of the Tacoma, which it calls the Trailhunter. It’s not hard to imagine that the manual transmission will figure prominently in the brand’s most enthusiastic versions of the new Tacoma, which is also rumored to have a hybrid powertrain.
For now, it’s hard to get any information on the new truck, but the truck’s debut isn’t far off.
Toyota has a new CEO
Koji Sato replaced longtime CEO Akio Toyoda as head of the brand, and Toyoda stepped down as president.
It is well known that Toyoda prompted the company to develop its Gazoo Racing (GR) sports brand both on and off the race track.
Now in his new role, Sato has hinted that the ex-CEO will have more in store for his performance brands, including Toyota Racing Development (TRD) and GR.
