After the Sports EV concept two years ago, Toyota is presenting its more advanced evolution this week in Tokyo, called FT-Se.

Badged Gazoo Racing (GR), the FT-SE presented this week in Tokyo, Japan, seems to leave no room for doubt: it’s a sports car! 100% electric, the car unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show is a strict two-seater, angular and rather compact. And if it is a priori not yet a production model but rather a more advanced continuation of the EV concept, the Toyota study presented in Japan today to the show public and which our special correspondent was able to approach as close as possible, seems almost ready to cross the Rubicon.

Some changes

Still revealed in an orange livery mixed with a black roof (which, this time, seems fixed when it was “Targa” on the previous concept), the FT-Se also frees itself from the previous version, with here a less “egocentric” line of lights, the addition of door handles, or the reinforcement of new air intakes and the appearance of real exterior mirrors, as well as a rear spoiler. Damn, we would then be dealing with a pure pistarde?

Performances, are we talking regarding them?

Inside, still too futuristic to imagine a rapid transition to series, we discover a passenger compartment equipped with a new cockpit, with a steering wheel with singular shapes, hollowed out in its center and split into two parts; and three touch screens, including two on the side immediately adjacent to the steering wheel (a digital dashboard is also included). On the other hand, on the technical side, if Toyota is still silent, we hope that with such a badge attached to its stern, the performance of this FT-Se will be there during its production run, probably not before 2024-2025… even if Toyota had already presented 16 concepts at once, including some from the Lexus brand and this little coupe. Is the sequel to MR2 finally in preparation? The Japanese manufacturer still does not seem to want to confirm a small electric sports car. No more than its competitors. Unfortunately, the cost and weight of batteries currently remains too high to consider accessible and fun machines.
