By 2026, the Japanese want to bring more efficient lithium-ion batteries onto the market, which, combined with optimized aerodynamics and lower vehicle weight, will enable ranges of 800 kilometers. The batteries should be able to be charged from ten to 80 percent in just 20 minutes. Toyota expects lithium iron phosphate batteries (LiFePO) to provide 20 percent more range and 40 percent lower costs. The first solid-state batteries are expected to come onto the market in 2027.
