In the Andean agricultural valleys that feed Lima, the capital of Peru, farmers harnessed in gas-powered sprayers are pouring clouds of pesticides on fruit and vegetable crops. This daily and dangerous work, they accomplish it from the age of 15, being totally devoid of protective equipment.
The phytosanitary products that they use contain a large part of the approximately 200 active substances banned from agriculture in Europe, due to their proven or strongly presumed toxicity for human health, biodiversity and the environment.
Frederic Loore, for an investigation unveiled in this Thursday’s Paris-Match and entitled “Champs d’honneur”, and the photographer Roger Job went on the spot where they found that the use of pesticides is out of control and that the monitoring of the food chain is completely faulty. Result: health risks multiply and consumers become poisoned. Pesticide residues end up on the plates of Europeans.
The survey on pesticides broadcast by LN24+ in collaboration with Paris-Match can be seen in the video above.
